About the Getty
The Getty Center is a world-renowned museum,
featuring stunning modern architecture, breath-taking views, and great art from
all periods.
About the Excursion
For those interested in an organized excursion, we have arranged for transportation
by air-conditioned tour bus from the conference hotel and Campus Village to the
Getty Center in Los Angeles, and for a gourmet picnic lunch at the museum.
Buses will leave at approximately 9:30 am on Saturday, August 26 and arrive at the
Getty around 11:00 am.
We will be met by recent UCI Physics/Materials Science Ph.D. graduate Carrie Menke,
who is currently working as a post-doc at the Getty, and who will give an informal
explanation of her work there on art restoration.
Then, you will be free to browse the art collection. Headsets in a variety
of languages are available at the museum to help guide you through the exhibitions,
if you prefer.
We will provide an a group picnic lunch at the Getty around 12:30, and buses will
leave to return to the hotel/Campus Village around 14:30. We should arrive
back at about 16:00, in time to permit other late-afternoon/evening plans.
Cost and Reservations
Space is limited (we are reserving one 55-passenger bus), and reservations will
be accepted on a first-come/first-served basis. You must
pay for the excursion (by credit card) when you reserve.
The charge for the excursion will be $30, which covers the cost of the bus and your
lunch. There is no charge for admission to the Getty, but if you go on your
own, you will need a reservation, you will be charged $7 for parking, and you will
have to fight through traffic (which is likely to be heavy on a Saturday) on your
own.
If there is insufficient interest to cover expenses, we will cancel the excursion
and refund your credit card payment.
Your browser must accept cookies to successfully reserve and pay for the excursion.
