ISS Pre-Meeting Accommodations

Reservations at the conference hotel and requests for on-campus housing are made during Registration. If you are arriving early for the ISS Pre-Meeting, you can make a single reservation for your entire stay, including the NuFact Workshop.

Ayres Hotel and Suites

Primary accommodations for the ISS Pre-Meeting (and NuFact) are at this hotel. Participants arriving on or after August 22 (for NuFact) should consult this page instead.

We have secured a small block of rooms for the ISS pre-meeting, with a very reduced rate, at the Ayres Hotel and Suites, Costa Mesa, a "European-style boutique hotel" located five minutes from the meeting site and from John Wayne Airport (SNA). It features many amenities, including free internet in the guest rooms, fitness spa, two swimming pools, and a French-style restaurant.

The discounted room rates of $105/night ("Deluxe room") and $120/night ("Junior Suite") for the ISS Pre-Meeting only (check-in on or before August 21) include a full (American) hot breakfast buffet every morning, a complimentary drink in the evening (Monday – Thursday), and free Internet connection in every room. Note that only thirty rooms of each type are available at this rate, and in the event of greater demand, you will have to reserve at the slightly higher, NuFact 06 rates.

The hotel operates a courtesy shuttle to and from John Wayne Airport (SNA). Transportation by bus will be provided between this hotel and all scheduled Workshop activities. Free parking is available to guests with cars.

Discounted rooms will be reserved by the hotel on a first-come/first-served basis, so participants are encouraged to reserve early. The block of rooms will be released on July 20, one month before the Workshop, after which availability cannot be guaranteed. Late summer is a busy time for tourism, so it is best to register and book your room now.

You will have the opportunity to make your hotel reservation (guaranteed by credit card through the hotel's website) during Registration.

UC Irvine Campus Village

Participants bringing families or on a limited budget may find the the University’s Campus Village apartment housing an attractive alternative.

A limited number of apartments in the University's Campus Village are available. These are furnished, non-smoking two-bedroom apartments (with kitchen, living room, phone, internet connection, television, etc) used for student housing during the academic year. Linen is changed daily, Monday-Friday. They are not luxurious, but clean and well-maintained. Units are not air conditioned, although UCI’s location near the coast usually keeps temperatures comfortable. Meals are not provided, but breakfast and lunch (for registered participants) are served daily at the meeting site during the Workshop. Shopping areas and restaurants are within a short drive, or a long walk.

You may rent a room (with two beds) in a shared apartment for $40/night, or rent an entire two-bedroom private apartment (with four beds) for $76/night.

Free bus transportation will be provided between the Campus Village and Workshop events. Parking for on-campus housing is available for an additional $7 per day.

The number of apartments available is limited, and we will give priority to graduate students and families traveling with small children.

Until July 1 (or until there are no more available rooms), we will fill requests from graduate students and families traveling with small children as they are received, on a first-come basis, and send a confirmation notice within a few days.

Starting on July 1 (if space still remains), we will fill pending requests from others, in the order originally received.

In either case, you do not have a confirmed reservation in the Campus Village until you receive a confirmation of such by email from the conference.

Thus, during Registration, it may be wise to make a hotel reservation as well as requesting an apartment, in case you cannot be accommodated in the Campus Village.

The confirmation email will contain more information on how and where to check-in.

Important: The University does not accept payment by credit card for on-campus apartments. You must pay by cash, traveler’s check, personal check (U.S. funds) or money order when you check-in.

Other Accommodations

There are many other business, tourist and economy hotels within a short drive of the conference site. For alternatives, please see this list, but note that the prices quoted may be out of date. Contact the hotels directly for more information.

Transportation will not be provided between Workshop events and other hotels, but you may rent a car, and parking at the meeting site (and most hotels) is free.
